I have an Outlook Add-in. In Outlook 2016 (Office 365 desktop version) it will not load. 32 bit Office install on Windows 10 64 bit. It appears that the VSTO runtime itself is not loading. The add-in does not appear. It doesn't appear in the disabled add-ins, nor in the Manage Add-ins anywhere to be enabled.

Is your Dynamics CRM for Outlook not working? If you are a like me and use Dynamics CRM for Outlook it’s likely that you’ve come across some odd issues with performance or Outlook not working as you expect it to. Restart Outlook. Close Outlook, wait for 5 seconds, then start it again. Enable Disabled Add-in. Select Disabled Items in the drop-down at the bottom of this window, next to the Go button. Select the Add-in which you would like to re-enable. Click Enable in the lower-left corner of this window. Restart Outlook. Close Outlook, wait for 5 seconds, then start it again. Skype for Business add-in not loading on Startup. The Skype for Business plugin in Outlook keeps coming up 'unloaded' for this user. If I click the checkbox next to it, it changes to 'loaded', but not 'load on startup' which is what I want. I have tried/looked at: Checked disabled plugins, nothing listed. Removed/added plugin as administrator.

The add-in registry entry for being always enabled is correctly added. I have verified that the correct .NET version and the VSTO runtime are all installed. I have set

and receive no data back from them.

I have also verified that the registry keys are correct. LoadBehavior is set to 3 and Manifest is pointing to the correctly installed file.

What is even more curious is that it did load at one point and worked fine, but seemingly all of a sudden it will not.

Has anyone run into this or know anything I can check to see what is going on?

In the event anyone runs into this, here are the steps used to solve the problem for me.

  • Uninstall my add-in
  • Uninstall the VSTO runtime
  • Uninstall Outlook, including any non-2016 components if any remain
  • Reinstall Outlook (2016 should have the run time)
  • Reinstall the add-in

It's a pain, but it worked.

Office Outlook is certainly the best desktop email client out there for Windows operating system. I have been using Outlook for the past few months, and all I can say is that it’s hard to switch to other email clients once you start using Outlook.

Outlook 2016/2019/365 hanging at processing, starting or loading profile screen

Microsoft Outlook Not Loading

While launching the Outlook 2016 on my Windows 10 PC last morning, the Outlook 2016 hanged at the processing screen. After killing the program in Task Manager and launching again thrice, Outlook 2016 started without any issues. This noon, when trying to launch Outlook 2016, it hanged again, but this time at starting screen.

If your Outlook 2016 or Outlook 365 is hanging at the processing, starting or loading profile screen, try out the following solution to fix the hanging issue.

Fix to Outlook 2016/2019/365 hanging at processing, starting or loading profile screen

Solution 1 of 2

Step 1: Simultaneously press Windows logo and R keys on the keyboard to open Run command dialog.

Step 2: Type Outlook.exe /safe and then press Enter key to open Outlook 2016 or Outlook 365 in Safe mode.

NOTE: Be sure to add a space between Outlook.exe and /safe. Else you will get Windows cannot find Outlook.exe/safe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again error.

Step 3: When you see the Choose Profile dialog, choose a profile (if you have multiple profiles), and then click OK button.

Outlook 2016 or Outlook 365 should open now without hanging.

Step 4: Close the Outlook program. Start the Outlook program again normally now. The program should now start without any issues.

Solution 2 of 2

If the above method didn’t for you, you can fix the hanging issue by creating a new Outlook data file. Here is how to do that:

Step 1: Open up the File Explorer, and navigate to the following folder.

C:UsersUserNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook

In the above path, “C” is the drive where Windows is installed and UserName is your user account name.

NOTE: If you can’t see AppData folder, it’s because the folder is hidden by default. In the File Explorer, click View, and then check Hidden items to view the folder.

Step 2:Right-click on your Outlook data file, click Rename, and then add Backup at the end of it. For instance, if the name of Outlook data file is intowindows@outlook.com, you need to rename it as intowindows@outlook.com backup.

Step 3: Finally, open the Start menu and launch Outlook 2016/365. The program should now launch without hanging at processing, starting or loading profile screen.

The Outlook program will automatically connect to the server to download all messages. You will not be asked to setup your account again.
